Trigger

I remember when the first time I started the habit of tidying my bed. I put a consistent effort, every time I woke up, I would tidy up my bed. Now, this habit has stuck, even when I was in Bali, I still did it effortlessly.

Some habits might not stick due to life-changing events. For instance, like my habit of cleaning up my room every time I was home. I did the habit very well for several first days. Then, life happened. I moved to Bali, I needed to leave with my roommates. They completely messed up everything, anytime. Trying to clean up everything after work would waste my energy.

However, I understand now. A habit needs a trigger to make it stick. When I was in Bali, and I'm now, I have tried to build a consistent daily exercise. When I was in Bali, it was daily running, now small exercises. Even though I've done the habit daily, but the habit has never stuck. I still needed to put my willpower into it, before I actually did it. No matter how happy I was when did running, I still needed to push myself doing it. It's not naturally and effortlessly become a habit yet. Now I know what the problem is. I've done it without any triggers, without specific timing. No trigger, no habit.

I want to change that thing now. Now I will only do my exercise routine when I am about to go out (either work or just hangout). Since I just do small exercises, those won't take me longer than five minutes, and won't make me real sweat either. Now I have the trigger, just need to execute it. And I'll see what will happen next!
