Do it slowly, but often
Today is Tuesday (or at least when I'm writing it down), a week ago I've found a great discovery to beat procrastination (one of the greatest enemy I've ever encountered) is by doing something small or slowly but do it daily or as often as possible.
Let's break it down!
A week ago, I read Atomic Habit book, this book is so thick, and funny because I only read the first chapter and that's where I've found this discovery.
In that book, the writer says success is built by daily small and tiny habit (this is not exactly what the book says, but I try to tell you the exact point only). One small habit will get a good result after you did it consistently for long period of time.
That's where I started to change my running routine. Previously I used to run in a long burst. Sometimes, when the day is good, I could reach 10km. But I know I can't do it every single day, so I did it every other days, instead.
And for now, I do it every single day for at least a week straight. I did it in a small and tiny measurable distances. 1.30 miles, or equals 2km. With this small goal, I have no reason to not get started. Even when the mood was bad, I always could tell myself, "It's just a short run!"
Sometimes I ended up run more than the goal, sometimes I didn't. But that doesn't matter, as long as I reach my daily goal.
So, back to the first topic, how can this discovery solve my procrastination problems. Well, not entirely solved, at least yet. But at least it could reduce it a bit. Same as run, I did my other with the same treatment: short and quick. When I needed to do my college assignment, I cut the assignment into smaller chunks. And during break I put other small tasks or do a short fun activities.
Here's how it works in practice: Make the assignment title first - do other task (do my laundry) - continue the assignment - do other task (clean up my bed) - continue the assignment - read one chapter manga - and so on.
Sooner or later the assignment will finish, even if you do it one piece after another.
